About
Since May 2009, an energetic group of nonprofiteers, technology developers, and journalists have been coming together to create the first up-to-date, open source map of the nonprofit community as it rides out the economic downturn.
In the context of a fast breaking recession, one key problem funders face is the lack of comprehensive, up-to-date, and easily accessible nonprofit data from a reliable source. That’s where we come in. Nonprofitmapping.org is working to transform previously inaccessible data sets into useful knowledge that can be made broadly available using the Web, geospatial mapping tools, and social media. By understanding how and why we’re losing nonprofits on a zip code-by-zip code basis, we aim to provide donors, funders and philanthropists with current data that can guide their resources in ways that will have the greatest impact.
We hope our work results in a more vibrant and effective nonprofit sector.
To that end, we are always on the look out for new blog and mapping partners, data contributors, and project funders. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with us here, on Facebook, on Twitter, or via email. Thanks for your important work!
Sincerely,
The Nonprofitmapping.org team
